My Journey

To get a sense for what I can bring to the table, you need to know where I have come from.

My corporate background

At 18, I took on a trainee role at a professional services firm that is now part of BDO, the fifth largest accountancy firm in the world, where I soon gained my Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) qualification.

After 7 years, I moved to a smaller London-based firm and learned the ropes as a Corporate Tax Manager. Later, I transitioned to KPMG where I niched into infrastructure and property, with a special focus on Public Private Partnerships.

I then embarked on a new adventure with the international infrastructure investor and FTSE 250 company John Laing, working my way up to Head of Tax and Non-Executive Director of one of the group’s investments.

Looking back, coaching played a key role in my development in the business. It certainly helped me with how I worked with the Board, communicated with key stakeholders in various departments, and dealt with the operational aspects of a leadership role in a large business.

Setting off in a new and exciting direction.

10 years into my role at John Laing, I was at the top of my game, in every sense. Despite this, I knew I wanted to fulfil a long-held ambition to work for myself.

My new tax advisory business went from strength to strength in its first twelve months. However, before I knew it, my circumstances had changed.

My partner and I endured a particularly difficult time; I lost my dad, she lost both her parents. At the same time, our children were forging their own way through university and into adulthood.

These life events brought new perspective and insight to my priorities. I pivoted and had some success as an entrepreneur, but I did not truly know where any of it was going. As it did for many, the pandemic fuelled an even more intense period of self-reflection that made me realise I had fully enjoyed the coaching aspect of my work to date and wanted to explore this further.
